Armenia Remembers Little Tigran One Year After Tragedy

The tragic story of little Tigran deeply affected people across Armenia. On May 9, the child would have turned three years old.

According to reports by MediaHub, the two-year-old boy disappeared on May 4 last year in the village of Marmarik in the enlarged Hrazdan community. Tigran had reportedly been playing outside while family members believed he was inside the house with his sister.

After weeks of search operations and widespread public concern, rescuers from the Rescue Service of Armenia discovered the child’s body on May 24 in the Marmarik River near the bridge area close to the Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant.

Authorities stated that an external examination found no signs of violence or injuries. According to forensic conclusions later confirmed by the Investigative Committee, the cause of death was drowning caused by water blocking the airways.

MediaHub also reported that Tigran’s father, Norayr Petrosyan, passed away several months later.

A year after the tragedy, questions remain regarding safety measures near the river. Marmarik administrative head Artur Karamyan stated that it is impossible to completely close off the river area and noted that he did not know the exact location from which the child had fallen.

According to local officials, the family continues to live in Marmarik.
