A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Peru on Saturday evening, leaving at least five people dead, according to local authorities.
Media reports, citing police officials, said the earthquake had its greatest impact in Chupaca Province, located in the Junín Region. All five reported fatalities occurred in the Chongos Bajo District of Chupaca Province.
Emergency services and local authorities are continuing to assess the damage and monitor the affected areas following the earthquake.
