Fox News continues to dominate the cable news landscape, outperforming competitors MSNBC and CNN in the ratings race. In 2022, the network delivered the third highest-rated year in cable news history for total day viewers.
For the seventh consecutive year, Fox News ranked as the top cable network in both primetime and total day viewers across basic cable, and for the 21st straight year, it held the title of the highest-rated cable news network.
Nielsen/MRI Fusion data shows Fox News attracted the most politically diverse audience in cable news, drawing more Democrats, Independents, and Republicans than any other network in terms of total viewership and the key 25-54 age demographic. Fox News captured its second-highest-ever share of the cable news audience, claiming 53% of the total day viewership in the 25-54 demo, and 55% of the primetime audience.
Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott praised the network’s achievements, saying:
“From America’s choice on election night to the home of late night’s smash hit show, 2022 was a testament to our unmatched skill in delivering the most innovative news and opinion programming to our audience which continues to rank as the most politically diverse in cable news. I am beyond proud of our entire team’s incredible achievements this year.»
Fox News programs dominated the cable news rankings, securing 13 of the top 15 spots in total viewership with shows like “The Five,” “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” “Jesse Watters Primetime,” “Hannity,” and “Gutfeld!” performing exceptionally well.
In a historic feat, “The Five,” a non-primetime show airing at 5 PM/ET, became the most-watched cable news program for 2022, attracting 3.4 million viewers and 465,000 in the 25-54 demographic, outperforming all daytime and primetime programming on CNN and MSNBC.
