Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, recently shared a touching moment she had with her daughter, Princess Lilibet, during their first trip abroad since stepping back from royal duties.
Meghan is experiencing the challenges and joys of motherhood firsthand.
While she and Prince Harry were on a three-day visit to Nigeria on May 10, Meghan shared a heartwarming story about a conversation with their two-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, as they spent time with students at the Lightway Academy.
Speaking to a kindergarten class, Meghan said, “Our daughter, Lili, is much, much smaller than you all,” as reported by People. “She’ll be turning three soon. Just a few weeks ago, when she looked at me, all she saw was her own reflection in my eyes. Then she said, ‘Mama, I see myself in you.’”
While Lilibet’s words were quite literal, the 42-year-old Duchess interpreted them on a deeper level. “In that moment, I thought, ‘Yes, you see yourself in me, and I see myself in you,’” Meghan shared.
As she addressed the young pupils, Meghan added, “And as I look around this room, I see myself in each one of you,” while Prince Harry sat beside her.
During their visit, the couple, who are also parents to five-year-old Prince Archie, joined the children in singing, dancing, and playing games. Meghan noted, “This is Lili’s favorite class,” according to the publication. “Maybe it’s all the jumping around,” she said with a smile.
Despite their preference for keeping their private life away from the public eye, Meghan and Harry occasionally offer glimpses into their lives as a family of four.
In a February interview on Good Morning America, the Duke of Sussex mentioned, “The kids are doing wonderfully.” He added that they’re growing up quickly, as all children do.
“They both have an incredible sense of humor and keep us laughing and grounded every single day,” Harry, 39, shared. “I’m just incredibly grateful to be their father.”
