Authorities in Armenia’s Gegharkunik region are expected to request a two-month pretrial detention for 21-year-old Hayk G., who is suspected in the death of his pregnant wife.
The motion is set to be presented on May 24 at the Sevan Court of General Jurisdiction.
The young man was detained on May 22 after police discovered the body of 22-year-old Marianna B. inside a Mercedes G-Class vehicle near the “Khachmeruk” area on the Yerevan–Sevan–Ijevan highway.
According to reports, investigators are currently examining several possible scenarios, including murder and incitement to suicide.
Multiple forensic examinations have been ordered, including medical, fingerprint, and trace evidence analyses.
Authorities also confirmed that the driver did not possess a valid driver’s license and was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Investigators stated that the suspect had previously been registered with police in connection with domestic violence and had recently been released from a penitentiary institution.
According to operational information cited in local reports, signs of physical violence were also discovered. Investigators reportedly found the victim’s hair in the suspect’s hand. The suspect allegedly claimed that he grabbed his pregnant wife by the hair while trying to stop her after she fell from the moving vehicle.
