A 16-year-old boy, Adriano D’Orsi, has died in the Italian city of Casoria after reportedly suffering a severe allergic reaction following a visit to a café with friends.
According to reports cited by local media, the teenager ate ice cream shortly before his condition rapidly worsened.
He was taken home, where his father attempted to provide first aid, but emergency medical teams were unable to save his life after arriving at the scene.
The family said Adriano had a serious allergy to milk proteins and was usually very careful about checking food ingredients. According to relatives, employees at the café were familiar with his condition and normally served him desserts prepared with milk substitutes.
However, the ice cream consumed during this visit reportedly triggered a fatal reaction.
Police have confiscated containers related to the product as part of the investigation. Authorities are currently trying to determine how traces of milk entered the teenager’s food.
One preliminary theory suggests that milk protein residue may have remained on the spoon used by a café employee while serving the dessert.
