Experts Say Healthy Diet May Support Cancer Prevention but Cannot Replace Treatment

Medical specialists remind the public that a healthy diet can help strengthen the body’s natural defense systems and reduce the risk of certain diseases, but no food can replace proven cancer treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, or other medical interventions.

Researchers continue to study cruciferous vegetables including broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts. These vegetables contain a compound called sulforaphane, which scientific studies suggest may help the body fight harmful substances and support cellular defense mechanisms.

Experts explain that sulforaphane becomes more active after vegetables are chopped or crushed. For that reason, specialists recommend cutting the vegetables and allowing them to sit for several minutes before cooking.

Turmeric has also attracted attention because of curcumin, its main active ingredient known for anti-inflammatory properties. Studies indicate that piperine, a compound found in black pepper, may help the body absorb curcumin more effectively.

Garlic is also considered beneficial by many nutrition experts. According to some studies, active compounds formed after crushing garlic may support the body’s protective processes.

At the same time, specialists advise limiting excessive sugar and fast carbohydrate consumption. While sugar itself does not directly cause cancer, excessive intake may negatively affect overall health.

Doctors stress that healthy nutrition should be viewed as part of a broader healthy lifestyle rather than a substitute for professional medical treatment. They emphasize that cancer prevention and treatment decisions should always be guided by qualified healthcare professionals.
