Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, and born in 1947, Bob Edwards launched his broadcasting journey in Indiana before making his mark at NPR in 1974. He initially teamed up with Susan Stamberg as a co-host on All Things Considered. By 1979, he stepped into a defining role as the inaugural host of Morning Edition, a position he held for nearly a quarter-century. His deep, resonant voice became a comforting morning presence for millions across the country.
Edwards gained widespread recognition for his insightful interviews and standout segments, especially his beloved weekly chats with legendary sportscaster Red Barber. Over the years, his distinguished work earned him several honors, including the prestigious Peabody Award in 1999.
