Armenia to Change Monthly Child Benefit Rules for Third and Subsequent Children

At the Government session scheduled for February 19, a draft decision will be adopted to amend the procedure for providing a monthly state allowance of 50,000 AMD for the third and each subsequent newborn child.

The benefit is provided for the third and every subsequent child born in a family. When determining the “birth order” of a child, other children in the family are taken into account in accordance with legal criteria. In certain cases, stepbrothers and stepsisters, as well as siblings of fallen servicemen, are also considered.

The benefit is assigned and paid by the Unified Social Service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

Payments are made cashless, to a social security account opened in the name of the beneficiary parent. The parent is required to confirm their presence in Armenia at least once a year by visiting a bank or through other legally предусмотрված (legally established) methods.

In the event of the beneficiary parent’s death, unpaid amounts may be transferred to the other parent or to an adult sibling upon application.

It is noted that the substance of the benefit remains the same as the support provided for children born before January 1, 2026.

Additionally, legislative amendments stipulate that financial assistance granted for the birth of the third and each subsequent child in the period from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2025 (inclusive) will be reclassified under the new benefit framework, regardless of whether the right to receive payments was previously suspended or terminated.

The decision will enter into force on the day following its official publication and will apply to cases where the child is born after January 1, 2026.
