Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu stated that Armenia was able to preserve its sovereignty in the final decade of the 20th century thanks to Russia’s efforts and support.
Speaking during a session of a special working group of the Russian Security Council, Shoigu also said that Moscow played a key role in helping Armenia overcome its energy blockade during a difficult period in the country’s modern history.
The Russian official emphasized the deep historical ties between the two countries, noting that Armenians and Russians are connected by centuries-old friendly relations and a shared history of fighting against foreign invaders.
According to Shoigu, these historical traditions and the common path of the two peoples continue to serve as the foundation of bilateral relations, including during challenging periods in Armenia’s recent history.
